Why does my belly button stink?

If you have redness, inflammation (swelling), and/or a yellowish discharge inside or around your belly button try not to pick or scratch the affected area, clean your belly button gently with salt water twice a day, and dry it carefully but thoroughly after washing. If after a few days you still have the same symptoms, you should see your doctor so that they can investigate the cause of the irritation. If you have an infection your doctor may prescribe a course of antibiotics.

The cause may also be smegma, a buildup of dead skin. According Wikipedia, Smegma is sometimes described as a "cheesy substance" a combination of exfoliated (shed) epithelial cells, transudated skin oils, and moisture. It occurs in both female and males.
Tea Tree Oil is highly reccomended as a cleaning agent for this problem.
